Their weight can vary between 8 and 60 pounds, depending on which parent breed they take after more. The average lifespan of a Chihuahua Shepherd is between 10 and 15 years. However, it is essential to note that various factors, including diet, exercise, genetics, and overall healthcare, can impact a dog's lifespan.

The color of a German Shepherd-Chihuahua mix typically includes black, tan, brown, cream, or a combination of these colors, often featuring markings similar to those of a German Shepherd. The coat of this mix will have short hair, resembling the coat length of a Chihuahua, while the colors may include shades of brown and black, similar to those found in a German Shepherd.

They are very family-friendly and have the potential to be excellent family dogs that get along well with children and other pets; however, they still require basic training and socialization.

However, it's important not to overlook that this mix doesn't do well when left alone for extended periods. Prolonged solitude can lead to negative behaviors. They thrive on companionship and want to be close to their human family members.

Exercises

Every dog needs regular exercise, but a smaller German Shepherd-Chihuahua puppy will typically require less activity. About 30 minutes of exercise each day should be sufficient for them.


This medium-to-high-energy crossbreed needs regular movement. While 30 minutes of exercise is a good baseline, these dogs enjoy longer walks as well. They love going on walks, hiking, and playing with their owners.


However, if your crossbreed is larger, they may require up to 90 minutes of exercise daily due to the German Shepherd's high activity level. If your puppy has inherited this trait, you'll need to dedicate extra time to keep them stimulated.

Grooming your German Shepherd Chihuahua mix includes brushing at least once a week to maintain a bright and healthy coat. Weekly brushing will also significantly reduce shedding.

Medical Conditions

As a hybrid dog breed, the German Shepherd Chihuahua is theoretically vulnerable to most illnesses and ailments that the parent breeds may develop.
